About the ABB Terra 94/124/184 DC Fast Charger


This guide covers the basic operation of the ABB Terra 94, Terra 124, and Terra 184 DC fast chargers, including how to start and stop charging sessions, handle emergencies, and troubleshoot common issues. The Terra 94/124/184 series are all-in-one Level 3 DC fast chargers delivering high output power for EV fleet applications and commercial charging sites. The small footprint design simplifies installation, while CCS and CHAdeMO DC output connector support ensures compatibility across a wide range of electric vehicles. A daylight-readable user interface with RFID and PIN authentication options supports profitable operation and a premium charging experience at fleet depots, retail sites, and highway corridor locations.

START CHARGING

  1. On the touchscreen, select the applicable connector button. If you skip this step, the EVSE selects the correct connector automatically when you connect the EV charge cable to the EV.
  2. Connect the EV charge cable to the connector on the vehicle.
  3. On the touchscreen, press the Start button.
  4. If the touchscreen shows a message to authorize the charge session, do the instruction that the touchscreen shows. Depending on the charger/location settings, may be applicable an authentication method: scan the RFID card for identification or use a PIN).
  5. The charging session will start after the preparation phase. The progress will be indicated on the screen.

STOP CHARGING

  1. On the touchscreen, press the stop button. 
  2. If the touchscreen shows a message to authorize the stop, do the instruction that the touchscreen shows (same authentication method as for starting a session). 
  3. Disconnect the EV charge cable from the EV and place the cable on the charger.
LOCKED CONNECTOR

In some cases, the EV locks the connector. To unlock the connector, obey the instructions for the EV. It may be necessary to unlock all doors of the EV, or use the ‘unlock charge connector button’ on the car key, if present.

STOP

Charging will stop without user interaction:

• In case of alarm/hazard. 
• When the battery is full, the charge session stops automatically.
• When the maximum charge time set by the operator/owner has been reached.

IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY

  1. Push the emergency stop button. The charger stops all ongoing charging sessions and displays a message.
  2. Contact the Site Manager/Operator.
EMERGENCY

Only push the emergency stop button if there is an emergency!

EMERGENCY BUTTON IS PRESSED ACCIDENTALLY

  1. Verify that the situation is safe.
  2. Turn the emergency button clockwise:
  • The emergency button is released and the charger is reactivated.
  • After a few seconds the message disappears from the screen and the charger returns to normal operation.

TROUBLESHOOTING

The touch screen is black and it does not light up when you touch it.

There is a problem with the AC input power supply.

1. De-energize the EVSE (Refer to OEM Manual section 4.6)

2. Energize the EVSE. Refer to OEM Manual section 4.5)

The touchscreen is white and it does not show any message.

The EVSE is in continuous operation for more than 24 hours.

1. De-energize the EVSE. (Refer to OEM Manual section 4.6)

2. Energize the EVSE. (Refer to OEM Manual section 4.5)

The touchscreen shows this message: Unable to lock the connector.

A.The EV charge cable is not connected correctly to the EV.

B. You are not authorized for the charge session.

A.Connect the EV charge cable to the EV correctly.


B. Make sure that you have authorization to charge the EV.

The touch screen shows this message: Unable to unlock the connector from the car.

A dangerous voltage is present on the EV charge cable.

1. Wait 5 minutes.

2. Start the charge session again.(Refer to OEM Manual section 4.4.2)

The touchscreen shows this message: Insulation detection error.

There is an insulation problem on the EV or the EVSE.

1.Try another EVSE to charge the EV.

2. Contact your local representative of the manufacturer. (Refer to OEM Manual section 1.12)

The touchscreen shows this message: The vehicle misbehaved.

There is a communication problem between the EV and the EVSE.

Contact your local representative of the manufacturer.

TERRA 94/124/184 CHARGER OVERVIEW

The ABB Terra 94, Terra 124, and Terra 184 are all-in-one DC fast chargers delivering high output power for EV fleet applications and commercial charging sites. The Terra 94 provides a peak power output of up to 90 kW, the Terra 124 up to 120 kW, and the Terra 184 up to 180 kW. Both CCS and CHAdeMO DC output connectors are supported, making the chargers compatible with a wide range of electric vehicles. The small footprint all-in-one design simplifies installation while the wide operating temperature range ensures reliable performance across climate conditions. The chargers support profitable operation with a daylight-readable touchscreen user interface and authentication options including RFID card and PIN access depending on site configuration.

TERRA HP HIGH-POWER CHARGING SYSTEM

ABB also offers the Terra HP, the third generation of Terra high-power DC fast chargers designed for highway corridor and EV fleet applications. The Terra HP charge post uses ABB Dynamic DC power sharing technology, which allows one vehicle to charge at up to 350 kW and 500 A, or two vehicles simultaneously at up to 175 kW and 375 A, optimizing the architecture to enable higher utilization of charging assets. Power cabinets connect to the charge post in scalable configurations from 175 kW up to 350 kW, enabling future growth as fleet charging demand increases. The Terra HP includes an integrated cooling system with liquid-cooled long cables and a cable retraction system for convenient reach across different vehicle configurations. Low noise levels make the Terra HP well-suited for customer-facing commercial operation. Site energy management solutions are integrated into the platform to optimize grid connection costs and support profitable operation from the start of commercial use.
